Parasite: 9.5/10
Just watched Parasite!!
It got really high ratings and it's pretty famous itself in Korea so obviously why NOT watch this movie?
You can't tell anything from the trailer haha. It's just a brief glimpse of the movie and it doesn't explain anything at all.
Soooooooo basicallyyyyyyyyyy. These are my thoughts of it. I'll try my best not to give any spoilers.
The plot basically revolves about the huge gap between the rich and the poor in the society. Maybe it's more prominent in Korea since there are so many dramas about it lol.
This movie is dark. It first started off as a light comedy but it got darker as you watch it.
It doesn't just describe the gap between them. It hits you in the face with the reality of it. That there is obviously a very big gap no matter how much you attempt to change it.
OKAY MAJOR SPOILERS ALERT.
This family of 4 tries hard to blend in with the 'rich' by doing whatever it takes to do so. This involves faking it until they eventually made it. Almost.
Until obviously there's a plot twist.
Reality hit them like a truck. No matter how much they tried, they can't blend in. They can't be one of them, because of the a stark difference in their mindsets, their personalities, their backgrounds, their habits?
I personally like this short conversation in the movie,
Let's face it. If you have zero worries about money in your life, I'm pretty sure you're gonna be nice and have a better/more positive outlook about life. Also translates to being nicer to people. It's like a cycle, you know what I mean. Well, as humans, how can one be so generous when they're worrying about being able to pay off their bills/struggling to make ends meet?
There was this scene when the rich owner told his wife about how his employees had this stench. The kind of smell when you're packed in a subway. The wife couldn't even relate, because she has never took the train before! They just don't understand it!!
And the poor guy overheard about it and started smelling his own shirt.
Boom. That's a big gap right there.
There are simply things that both sides can NOT understand about each other. The rich in this movie are definitely not the bad villains here, and the poor folks aren't bad either. They're just being themselves. Eventually greed overcame them, but they're just trying to protect themselves.
The rich owner just complained about petty things like he thinks they smell. The smell of the poor, and just stuffs like how they're gonna be busy because of a birthday celebration, how their son is tiring them out with his obsessiveness over camping while they're lying on their expensive sofa in their fine ass architectural masterpiece of a 'home'.
Meanwhile on the other side of the world, his poor employees just lost their 'home' to a natural disaster, something they have no control over. They just sat there watching everything going down to the drain, losing their belongings and now they had to take shelter in a public gymnasium with the rest of the people.
When there's a dead body right in front of the rich owner and unfortunately his expensive car keys are right underneath the body, he's still disturbed by the smell of the poor soul. He kicked the fellow and avoided SMELLING at all costs, instead of being disturbed by a freaking CORPSE!!! Apparently he's more bothered by the smell than the death of someone!!! But of course he NEEDED the keys to save his son in seizure.
You can say that they're just putting themselves first, instead of others. I wouldn't call them selfish because it's just their instincts. They're protecting themselves first, their own family first.
So....... it's an interesting movie. It might be boring for some people lol so. Personal preference.
Also, we just bought a GoPro!!!!!!!
LOOK OUT FOR MY ANNOYING VLOGS GAIS AHAHAHAHA

"The rich are nice people, aren't they?"
"They're nice because they're rich, my dear."
