simple living
I'm not sure if this pandemic has changed my life for the better or worse (considering that I did not get infected)
I can't work from home.
Which sucks but my heart is quite balanced now since they just restored back my salary but kept the working time to 9am-4.30pm just like during MCO although the engineers still work until 5pm~6pm ish anyway because work can never finish.
I'm usually done with my job by 4.30pm but I still have to wait for my superior because it doesn't feel right haha (fuck Asian culture)
On the bright side I'm usually home by 7pm. But I can't work out or go to the gym like I used to, so I had to resort in waking up 20 minutes earlier everyday so I could do a light workout before I get ready for work. It's not the best because I want to sleep more but I also feel guilty for sitting on a chair for freaking 16 hours daily.
I still commute to work because I want to bring everyone down with me since I can't work from home hehehehe. I still listen to my usual news and finance podcasts on Spotify on the way to work but not as much as last year.
Before I scream on everyone's faces about how we should open high interest savings account!! and invest!! and sign up for credit cards with exceptional cashback!!! and how females should learn more about this too so we don't depend on men forever!!!
I do this so that I can quit my job hehehe.
I enjoy being an engineer but I do not enjoy the stress and responsibilities and unrealistic datelines and uptight rules about the job.
Or you can say I like the salary but I hate the work LOL.
I know every job has its own pros and cons but I definitely do not enjoy how much being an engineer sometimes keep me up from sleeping because I suddenly remembered I forgot a rule in my design and oh shit I'm doomed the building is going to crack.
That's why you see me preaching about finance and retirement every freaking time like I'm an annoying lady in the kopitiam but yeah.
I figured I can't take it anymore and will leave engineering once I feel comfortable seeing 100k in my investments.
I'm halfway there already sooooo probably in 2 years? :D
Then I'll work travel for a bit and then find an unskilled low pay job that doesn't stress me out every night hahahaha.
Then I can go to the market every morning to get my groceries and drink fresh coffee brewed by the bf and go to work and come back and do my daily workouts and just waste my life away HAHAH.
My partner is now happily working as a floor staff in a cafe after getting retrenched. His pay is extremely low like minimum wage so it's not as amazing as it seems but he's happy!!!!!!!
He took a barista course and wanted to be a barista but I pushed him to send his resumes to every f&b business he could think of because he wasn't getting any replies from any cafes.
But I support him 110% because he's happy! I told him I wouldn't want him to get back to construction field and have a high pay job with high stress which eventually comes with high unhappiness index and no time to spend on himself and then we'll eventually be unhappy too and hate each other.
Do whatever that makes you happy.
Now the biggest issue would be money.
I know money can't buy happiness but it can buy a ferrari and a house that makes you happy bullshit. But if we look at our expenses, it's actually just nice enough to live and put food on the table. Considering there's no children that comes to the equation and gives us negative ROI HAHAHAHHAHA (I stole this from forums and it was hilarious)
If we can afford one, we will but if we can't afford it then it's okay. I don't mind.
Since the world and society is getting more fucked up as time passes and hello global climate issues hello unstable economy hello civil wars hello mental illnesses hello health issues.
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
Back to the topic.
As long as we can live and put food on the table, it's sufficient right? At least it is for me. I don't need a big house or a big lawn or a fancy car or expensive vacations. Although yes it would be awesome to have that.
I want to live like a typical Malay and live simply and happily as long as there's food on the table.
I just watched Hyori's Bed and Breakfast on Netflix and this show probably hit my nerve HAHAH
Hyori is a super famous female solo artist in Korea, as famous as Rain back then during their eras. She quit her career when she was at her peak, got married to an average looking producer and settled down in Jeju Island.
Her husband isn't handsome in the looks department but excuse me his personality would sweep everyone's feet in an instant.
IU was their guest helper in the first season. This show was really old but I suddenly discovered it on Netflix and yeah.
They opened their not-as-luxurious house in Jeju and made it into a temporary BnB for 2 weeks. It's a reality show la but it's so heart warming you know. I want to own a hostel/bnb too when I grow old!!! Meet people and learn from each other!!!
I don't want to be stuck in engineering and hate everyone and everything HAHAHA.
